Opening oneself to relationships with others, serving with acceptance and respect.
Compassion is a hallmark of Niagara University, a trait that is fully embraced throughout all levels of the university. Faculty, staff and administrators gladly spend the extra time necessary to truly know our students. Students genuinely care for one another and for the community members they serve. Smiles and friendly words are readily given to members of our close-knit community and our welcomed visitors alike.
Compassion is woven through the rich tapestry of our heritage and provides a basis for thought, policy and action. It is demonstrated in the selfless sacrifice of time and energy given to help enrich the lives of the poor and underprivileged in local and global communities, as well as on our own campus.
The value of compassion receives far more than passing consideration at Niagara. It is truly at the heart of Niagara's mission and has become a guidepost, marking the path for the future.
Fr. Levesque's Vision
We should always have an upbeat spirit and pride about NU, for we are a university that tries always to focus on the best of Catholic and Vincentian values in education. If we cause no harm or undue criticism of our university, we speak volumes to our new students, competitors, area neighbors, the academic community, etc. We must include in this our consistent person-oriented culture on campus, that is, all members are valued and respected.
We must always be sure we are most faithful to providing significant access to higher education for the poor. At the same time, we must be focused on integrating service of the poor into the educational process for our students, and to assure that such service has a primacy in this higher education dimension of our Vincentian mission.
