The format includes lecture, discussion, and exercises.  Instructors include a combination of academic and industry experts.  A set of notes and reference material is included for each participant.  Continental breakfast and a light lunch is included.

About the Course:  This course is designed to provide a broad overview of the Supply Chain.  What is SCM and how can you use SCM to improve the performance of your business?   The essential elements of the supply chain are covered, including procurement, inventory, transportation, and warehousing.  Since integrative and leading edge management concepts are featured, the course is ideal for managers who oversee any of the  functions above and seek job performance enhancement and career broadening.

We are very pleased to announce that Jack Ampuja will be leading instruction in this course along with Jim Kling of Niagara University. 

Jack Ampuja: A nationally recognized supply chain expert--his career has ranged from direct supervision of teamsters and longshoremen to Senior VP of a multibillion dollar international company.  He has worked in manufacturing, wholesale distribution and third party logistics and currently heads up a consulting firm.

Dr. Jim Kling, Associate Professor of Business, Niagara University.  Jim has over ten years of experience in teaching, professional training, and consulting in transportation and logistics.  Jim completed his PhD. at the University of Maryland in 1989.

 8:45-10:15:  The Supply Chain Concept—its elements and evolution.  Key concepts:  The Value Chain, “Push vs. Pull”, True Inventory Costs, Importance of Information and speed, Measuring Supply Chain Performance.

 Procurement and Supplier Management (Jim Kling)

 10:30-11:30: Jim Kling introduces purchasing, procurement, and Supplier Management

Mini Case: Titanium Dioxide Case Study
Discussion: Purchasing Ethics

Key Logistics Concepts, Costs and Current Trends (Jack Ampuja)

12:15-1:15   Jack Ampuja gives a logistics update   “What’s really happening out there today?”  This is a current summary of  costs and trends in logistics.

1:15-2:00     Ampuja:  Logistics Integration and Packaging Example: “Understanding and Optimizing Total Logistics Costs—How Packaging can leverage total costs.

2:00-2:10      Break

2:10-3:00      Jack Ampuja provides his perspective on organizational and leadership Issues in logistics: Topics include how to structure an organization for maximizing logistics performance and the importance of managing people to achieve better organizational effectiveness.

 1:40-2:40   Leading edge practices and case studies: How the best firms are leveraging logistics to improve corporate performance.
