PEP Literacy Camp

June 27, 2011 – July 14, 2011

30 Niagara Falls City School District students in kindergarten to grade two experienced a 3-week literacy program, working with 17 NU College of Education elementary cohort students. The three mornings-per-week program enabled camp participants to work on maintaining literacy skills over the summer and engage in activities that exposed students to a college campus. Various activities allowed the campers to see how literacy can be integrated into career exploration, field trips and cultural awareness. A family celebration was held on August 4 to celebrate and share in the campers' successes!

Yes, Girls This One’s For You! STEM Camp

August 15, 2011 – August 18, 2011

Seventeen young ladies in grades seven to nine experienced a week of personal and professional activities designed for girls’ interests at those age levels. STEM topics planned and taught by 11 graduate students included: Boutique Blueprints, Fabrics Fiesta, Trash to Treasures, and Premium Polish. While seeing the world through the eyes of STEM, the girls were engaged in STEM careers exploration, etiquette, living wellness, what not to wear, "techtiquette," and yoga. The girls used what they learned in etiquette by dressing up for an etiquette luncheon held in their honor. Family members were treated to a “Make a Sundae” social with each girl presenting a part of the week’s activities. The STEM Camps are sponsored by the Western New York Regional Educational Center.
