Letter to Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The students in Niagara University’s class of 2012 have worked very hard to reach their goals and become successful graduates of NU. We hope that families of potential graduates will find the following information helpful in planning for our commencement weekend, and that you will be able to join us in the celebrations.

Details for the weekend include the following:

10 – 11:30 a.m. | Student Brunch | Clet Hall

12 p.m. | Opening Ceremony | Upper Level Gallagher Center

Note: The Senior Class Celebration Ceremony allows all undergraduates who will process on Saturday the opportunity to convene with their peers, faculty and staff as a learning community. Professional attire is recommended; caps and gowns will only be worn for the commencement exercises on Saturday. Father Levesque, the senior class president and a faculty speaker will offer formal remarks at this event.

For the undergraduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2012, a sign language interpreter and a large screen will be available in the Gallagher Center and streamed live in the Castellani Art Museum. Accessible seating for individuals using wheelchairs in both locations will be available on a limited basis. To seek assistance in locating this seating, you may see one of the ushers located at the entrances the day of the ceremony. Please also note that wheelchairs will not be available on-site for use during the event.

Bringing Commencement back to NU has been the wish of our graduates for quite some time and we are happy to be able to fulfill that wish this year and to also be able to add a few “new traditions.” This year, for the first time, graduates will have an opportunity to come together on Friday to celebrate and take part in special activities with their classmates. Also new this year, graduates will have the opportunity to attend college receptions where they will be able to say goodbye to those special faculty members and administrative personnel that made their experience here at NU exceptional.

Each student will be issued four (4) tickets to allow family and friends to attend their commencement. Tickets are required by all who plan to attend the commencement ceremony. Nobody will be admitted into the Gallagher Center without a ticket. Please note that baby strollers are prohibited.

Tickets will be distributed by the Campus Activities Office during the following dates and times:

Monday, April 23 – Friday, April 27, 2012
9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Extended Hours:

Tuesday, April 24, 2012
7-9 p.m.

Monday, April 30, 2012
7-9 p.m.

If additional tickets are available, redistribution will take place on May 3 and 4 at 9:30 a.m. in the Campus Activities Office on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that the number of tickets to be redistributed may be limited.

Our senior class leaders have worked hard to put together resources which include hotels and restaurants in the Buffalo/Niagara area to help families plan for the commencement weekend.

We look forward to making this year’s commencement weekend a most memorable one!

Sincerely,

Timothy M. Downs, Ph.D.
