Letter from the Director
Dear New Students:
Congratulations, and welcome to Niagara University! As the director of Residence Life, allow me to extend my best wishes to you for a successful and productive year at NU. I trust that your decision to attend Niagara will meet your expectations and that you will find your experience to be both rewarding and enjoyable.
I hope you are as excited as I am that you will be living in Niagara’s exceptional residence halls! All of our residences are living learning communities that encourage interactions with others and foster growth and development.
In the coming months, you will be receiving quite a bit of information by mail and email from many members of the university. It is important that you read everything that is sent to you very carefully. We take pride in trying to help our students and the information you receive should assist you as you prepare to attend Niagara. You are now part of the Niagara community and you should begin to take advantage of what is offered. Should any questions arise, please feel free to contact our office.
I would imagine moving into the residence hall is one of the most important concerns you have. To help us make room assignments and to get to know you better, please complete the online Residence Hall preference form. Information requested on this form is necessary as it will help when assigning you a room and roommate.
Any preference you have for a roommate or building will be given every consideration possible. Simply note it on the preference form. No one can be assigned to a room until this form is completed. Preference for assignment to a residence hall or type of room is granted on a first-come, first-served basis according to the following:
(1) the date that the Admissions Office received your acceptance deposit, which you have paid already; and
(2) provided that your completed Residence Hall Preference Form is completed.
Please keep in mind that roommates must request each other in writing by this date and time to be considered.
A student with a disability requiring special housing accommodations may request accommodations through Niagara’s Disability Services Office. Requests and supporting documentation must be received by July 2 in order to be considered. For more information go to www.niagara.edu/oas, click on Disability Services (on left), then Information for Students (on left), Non-academic Accommodations, then Disability-related Housing Requests.
Room assignments are usually made in late July after the summer orientation sessions have ended. We try to notify you of your assignment shortly after that. O'Shea, Seton, Clet, O’Donoughue and Lynch halls are coeducational by floor while single gender halls are Varsity Village, Houses 1, 3 and 5 (male) and Varsity Village, Houses 2, 4 and 6 (female). Niagara's residence halls permit visitation by members of the opposite sex as well as privacy hours where visitation is by members of the gender of the living unit only. Freshmen are placed with other freshmen who have similar interests, if possible. We also attempt to place men and women transfer students with students of similar age and/or year in school.
Later in the summer you will be receiving another letter with some final information about how to check in to your room, times to arrive, and any changes that occur between now and then.
Best of luck in your current endeavors and I look forward to meeting you when you arrive on campus.
