Hints and Tips

  • When planning an event, order water in a pitcher with cups instead of plastic bottles. Bottled water is really just filtered water, is expensive, and certainly isn't environmentally friendly.
  • When purchasing technology, particularly computers, consult with IT to make sure you are using energy efficient components. For example, by using AMD's green chips, you expend only 30 percent of the energy that a traditional Intel duo-core chip uses.
  • The federal government has passed a law to phase out all incandescent 100-watt lamps by Jan. 1, 2012. Although the law may seem like an unreasonable burden, this change is actually a good thing. The equivalent 23-watt compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) use less energy, save money and last significantly longer than incandescent lamps.
