After I graduated in 2000 from Niagara University, I was offered the graduate assistantship in NU's College of Education. I worked full time in that capacity while earning my master's degree and professional diploma.
Upon completion of my master's and duties as the graduate assistant, I graduated in 2002 and was hired as a fifth grade teacher in the Niagara Falls City School District. After two years in the classroom, I was appointed as a teacher on special assignment, serving as a literacy coach and working on grants, curriculum and programs for the district.
After four wonderful years in the Niagara Falls City School District, I was appointed as associate principal for Ithaca High School, serving over 1,600 students.
At the end of my second year in Ithaca, I was appointed executive principal/coordinator for secondary education of Cortland Junior Senior High School, serving 1,300 students. I am serving my fifth year at Cortland and I am enjoying the profession that I have always wanted to be involved in.
As I reflect on my 11 years in education, I am proud to admit my passion and loyalty to Niagara University. When I hire new staff, NU comes up; when I am discussing philosophy and procedures, NU comes up; when I am making critical decisions, NU comes up. Niagara University has provided me the preparation and opportunity to become who I am today, and I am forever grateful.
