Niagara University’s educational leadership program is NCATE accredited and a widely recognized graduate program that prepares candidates for school and district leadership roles. Candidates will find the Master’s program an excellent preparation for emerging leadership opportunities. The program’s focus on integrating theory and practical experience provides a relevant curricular base for career-embedded professional development.
Niagara University’s Master’s of Educational Administration and Supervision has been offered in Ontario with Ministerial consent since 1984 in collaboration with public and Catholic Greater Toronto Area school boards.

The purpose of Educational Leadership is to prepare individuals for organizational leadership and decision making, the design and implementation of instruction for student achievement, management of the organization and its operations, human resource development, and building parent involvement and community support. Classroom teachers may want to enroll in the educational leadership program to prepare themselves to serve in a variety of leadership roles within their school and board (team leaders, chairpersons, coordinators) in addition to administrative positions.

How long will it take to complete the program?
Students can complete the M.S.Ed. degree program in two years by taking two courses on a part-time basis in the fall, spring and summer sessions.
What is the advisement process?
Once accepted, students will be assigned a faculty advisor. Students should communicate with the assigned advisor prior to beginning their program of study and periodically thereafter.
What are the requirements for graduation?
Students must maintain a B average in coursework and successfully complete a comprehensive examination.
Where and when are the courses offered?
Courses are offered at sites in the Greater Toronto Area in the fall, spring and summer semesters through face to face and distance education delivery.
What are the backgrounds of your students?
Candidates come from a variety of backgrounds – in years of experience, role within their schools, government settings and district boards including small, large, urban, and suburban. The various backgrounds of candidates provide a diversity which adds depth and breadth to the classes and program.

Educational Leadership Program Statement
The educational leadership programs in the College of Education are founded on a commitment to developing practitioners who, in the Vincentian tradition, foster human learning, development, spiritual well being, and emotional stability in their respective institutions. Graduates of these programs are expected to demonstrate the qualities of outstanding reflective practitioners and the dispositions of caring, respect for self and others, commitment to equity and social justice, open mindedness, and fairness. Additionally, we expect candidates within these programs to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions recognized by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC). The ELCC standards were prepared by members representing the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). and National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
Candidates completing the Educational Leadership Program will evidence their knowledge, skills and dispositions as indicated in the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC) Standards: |
