2004 Event
New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Graduate Education Alumni, Students, and Friends gathered in Toronto, Ontario on August 27, 2004 for a night of fellowship, fun, and baseball! The Toronto Blue Jays / New York Yankee’s game was the focal point of this exciting evening.
John Baran ‘02 and his wife Liz ’85, attended the pre-game gathering at the Armadillo Texas Grill. John concluded, “It was a balmy evening in Toronto, a perfect night for a ballgame. The food at the Armadillo Texas Grill was excellent. And the seats at the game were great!”
Over the sound of “peanuts, get your peanuts,” old acquaintances were being renewed and new friendships formed. Educational Leadership Chairperson, Barbara Iannarelli, who teaches courses on both sides of the border stated, “There’s nothing like a real live baseball game! This binational event was exciting in that it brought our alumni and students together from both Ontario and New York.”
Beyond all the fun and festivities, there was also a ballgame being played. In Friday's game the Yankee’s Bernie Williams hit a two-run homer to lead New York to an 8-7 win. Derek Jeter and Hideki Matsui each added solo homers for the Yankees. With all the long-balls flying out of the park, it was a great game for spectators. Jay’s fans also had a chance to cheer when Carlos Delgado hit a monstrous three-run homer for the Blue Jays.
Joann Inchiosa ’05, summed the evening up best when she concluded, “The Yankees / Blue Jays game was a great outing! My family and I really enjoyed ourselves and we plan to participate again next year.”
The event drew around 75 people according to Graduate Education Coordinator, Evan Pierce, who planned the event. Mr. Pierce stated, “I’m hoping we can make this an annual event. It was great to see so many fans of baseball and of Niagara University!”
With Niagara’s long tradition of excellence in education in both New York and Ontario the game was a perfect way to commence the new fall semester and share in the camaraderie.
