I am a professor in the Department of Early Childhood/Childhood Education and an educational psychologist with special focus on learning, motivation, and assessment. I am also a certified elementary teacher in New York State with administrative experience in head start programming.
I have great interest in inclusive special education with recent publications on this topic in the International Journal of Special Education and American National Biography. I’m also interested in improving teaching practice and assessment in higher education, publishing recently with colleagues in The Journal of Effective Teaching and Language Assessment Quarterly, and cofacilitating a U.S. Department of Education Investing in Innovation grant with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
I hold my Ph.D. and M.A. in psychology from Syracuse University where I also earned a B.S. in Elementary Education.
My primary teaching responsibilities are in the Department of Early Childhood/Childhood Education where I teach EDU 536 Human Learning, Development, and Motivation and EDU 530 Managing the Culturally Responsive Classroom. Most of my teaching is conducted in on-line or hybrid format. Over the last few years I have also taught EDU 450 Early Childhood Philosophy and Practice (with a study abroad trip to Italy) and EDU 333 Special Olympics Coaching and Games Management.
I am on the Advisory Board for Mount St. Mary’s Childcare Center and serve on the Summer Games Organizing Committee for Special Olympics New York. I am also actively involved in the role out of New York State Teacher Certification exams and the Chalk and Wire ePortfolio system at Niagara.
