Bio
Morgan Brooks received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and her M.Ed. in Community Counseling from the University of New Orleans and her B.A. in Psychology from Tulane University. Dr. Brooks is the current director of the Mental health Counseling Program at Niagara University, where she has been a full time faculty member for 10 years. She is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in the state of New York, a nationally certified counselor (NCC), a New York State Certified Mediator, and has advanced training in substance abuse and grief counseling. Further, she is heavily involved in Disaster Mental Health Training and has not only worked as a mental health professional through the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina, but has also given presentations to local first responders to disasters about the role of second responders such as mental health professionals in disaster work with both children and adults. Additionally, she has been asked to speak at state Red Cross meetings as a panelist on disaster mental health. She also serves on the editorial review board for the Journal of College Counseling, where she has just signed on to continue reviewing through 2015. Her professional memberships include the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Mental Health Counseling Association (AMHCA), the New York Mental Health Counseling Association (NYMHCA) and the American College Counseling Association (ACCA). Courses she teaches include but are not limited to: Psychopathology and DSM Diagnosis, Introduction to Counseling, Counseling Theory and Practice, and Mental Health Counseling Practicum and Internships. Her research interests include and have involved examining adult children of divorce and intimate relationships, personality disorders, forensics and law in counseling, college counseling, and grief, loss, death and dying, specifically as they relate to oncological counseling. Additionally, Dr. Brooks has served as a staff counselor and substance abuse assessment counselor at Niagara University’s Counseling Center and serves as a faculty liaison for Niagara University’s Counseling Center.
