Getting Back Into the Routine

by Derek Ricioppo on September 24, 2016

Well, I'm finally getting back into a routine as the new semester is underway. I have been enjoying my classes and have also attended some meetings for clubs on campus.

My classes have been going quite well so far. I've given my first couple of speeches in public speaking, and gave my first presentation in Oral Interpretation – and I thought they all went well. I have really enjoyed my American Deaf Studies class so far even though we only have had two classes. The material is very interesting and even though it’s a longer class, the classes go by very quickly because the material is very enjoyable and the instructor makes it very engaging.

My online sociology class has also been going well and so far I have been able to keep up with assignments. And although it’s not something I am familiar with, I think I will like my film and culture class that focuses on horror films. Even though horror is not my favorite film genre, it will be interesting to see how I like the class. We watched Psycho in class last week and I am looking forward to discussing the film on Wednesday.

During the first few weeks of school, I have attended a few meetings for clubs I am already involved with, or hope to be involved with this semester. The NU Readers book club had its first meeting last week and we decided to read Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits by Laila Lalami. The author of this book is a featured speaker at an author talk in Buffalo that will take place in November.

I also attended the first interest meeting for the American Sign Language (ASL) club. I am hoping there will be some events with the ASL club that I will want to participate in, in addition to taking ASL 310 this semester.

This semester has been going great so far and I'm looking forward to seeing what else is in store as we officially approach the start of fall and the beginning of October.
