The Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Phi Sigma Iota was founded at Niagara University in 1981. This is a nationally registered honor society, open to all Juniors and Seniors with a major or minor in modern or classical languages, and with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in language, and overall. The honor society promotes international understanding through the study of foreign languages and cultures. The Niagara University chapter is active both on campus and in our community, sponsoring such events as the annual Poinsettia sale, the International Mass, the Study-Abroad Fair, Saint Patrick's Day Photos, and a Senior Honors Banquet; also community service programs at Vive la Casa and Niagara Hospice.
Dues for new members is $35. Annual dues for returning members is $10. All members are required to complete six hours of community service during the academic year. If you are interested in joining Phi Sigma Iota, please contact the chapter representative, Dr. Henrik Borgstrom, or stop by the Department of Modern and Classical Languages in 344 Dunleavy Hall.
