ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines

 

Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in the College of Education

Liberal Arts Requirement:   9 foundation courses;  11 distribution courses

Professional Requirement:  10 courses in the College of Education; 12 courses in language concentration

All students seeking provisional teaching certification must register with the College of Education.

Major Requirement:

SPA 103-104  Intermediate Spanish Language*

SPA 205-206 Advanced Conversational Spanish and Composition 

SPA 305 Literature and Civilization of Spain                                                                                                                                       

SPA 307 Civilization and Culture of Latin America

TWO Spanish or Latin American culture electives at the 200 or 300 level

ONE Spanish/Hispanic elective at the 300 or 400 level

THREE Spanish/Hispanic literature electives at the 400 level

* depending on the student's linguistic proficiency, he or she may place directly into the advanced 205-206 level, in which case, the student will gain two additional electives in Spanish or Latin American Studies.
