and Tourism Management
Niagara’s faculty
features a healthy balance of seasoned professors and energetic
new hires, with over 92 percent of them holding the highest
degree in their field. The faculty are committed to experiential
learning and many involve students in their research, making
them aware of current practices and global issues. A strong
relationship between students and faculty is also encouraged
through advisement.
Honors Program
The Honors
Program identifies academically talented and motivated students
to assist them in enriching their academic experience by providing
the opportunity for intensive individual learning. Our hope is
that your intellectual skills will enable you to achieve wisdom
that saves and hope that brings liberation to others in need.
Information Technology
A
broad range of Windows based computer facilities are available
for your use, with one lab open 24 hours a day. All residence halls
have computer connections for each student. You are given a personal
electronic mail account which is required for communication between
faculty, administration and students. You also receive access to
an account to a Web-based personalized student portal system and
an account to a system which allows faculty to make course material
available over the Internet.
Learn and Serve
Learn and Serve Niagara promotes service-learning by addressing
the needs of the community, while also enhancing your sense of
social responsibility through direct service. The goal is to connect
the academic content of the university classroom with service to
the community, while engaging in thoughtful reflection over the
semester. Learn and Serve Niagara places you in local schools and
agencies for approximately 15-20 hours each semester. You will
also have the opportunity to earn service hours at one day events
sponsored by NUCAP (Niagara University Community Action program).
These one day events can include neighborhood clean-ups, working
with the developmentally disabled or visiting area nursing homes.
You are required to participate in one Learn and Serve office at
least once during your NU experience, but we hope to see you each
and every semester!
Library
The Library offers research assistance, online access to most
of its databases, books, periodicals, recreational novels and DVDs.
There are three group study rooms, one with a television to view
DVDs and videos. Food and drink is allowed in the library with
vending machines on the second floor. You can send and receive
personal faxes up to 10 pages in length.
Major and Career Planning
The
Office of Career Development (OCD) is another resource available
from day one of your first year. The OCD connects you with part-time
job opportunities, cooperative education or internship placements,
and provides career counseling and job search preparation. The
result is a high placement rate for Niagara graduates. Within six
months of graduation, 89 percent of NU graduates find a job and
33 percent continued on to graduate school.
