First Week of My Last Semester

by Derek Ricioppo on September 9, 2016

My first week of my last semester at NU is officially complete and I have experienced several highlights while getting back into a routine after summer vacation.

Here they are:

Classes

So far, my classes have been going well. I have enjoyed my first two public speaking and oral interpretation classes and I feel that what I learn in those two classes will give me skills that will come in handy after I graduate.

I also had my first film and culture class and, although the class will focus on the horror movie genre, I’m hoping it will be a class that I will enjoy.

I also have had my first experience with my online class and one thing that I have found helpful is downloading the mobile app for Canvas, the university’s new online learning system, to keep up with assignments and get reminders through email and text alerts.

I still have one class I haven't gone to yet, which starts on Monday. The class is American Deaf Culture and I think it’s a class that I will enjoy and learn a lot from.

New Campus Facilities

One thing I have really enjoyed while being back on campus is the new expansions and renovations that have been made to the dining hall. There is more space for multiple seating areas and many more food stations that have been added for students to enjoy, in addition to a bright and inviting atmosphere that adds even more to the dining experience.

Theater Audition

On Wednesday, I had an audition for this semester’s NU theatre productions. I auditioned with a monologue from the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. While I thought I did well in my audition, I went into it not necessarily expecting to be cast in a show and was just happy to have had the opportunity to audition for the theatre faculty. I am very grateful for the experience.

That's all for my first week back on campus. I'm looking forward to seeing what the semester has to offer in the coming weeks and blogging about my time at NU as I continue with my final semester.
