Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I have to re-apply for financial aid each year?
Yes.  All financial aid is re-applied for annually.   Submit the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Send copies of your and your parents’ signed federal tax returns to the Financial Aid Office.
  2. What are Niagara University’s school codes?
Federal Code  002788   (to be used on FAFSA)
NY State TAP Code: 0560    (to be used on NY ETA application)
  3. Do I need to submit copies of my federal income tax return, as well as my parents’, even if as a freshman the tax forms were not required?
Yes.  The Financial Aid Office performs tax verification “up front” on all renewal federal aid applications.  This provides a more accurate initial package and avoids revisions for tax verification later.
  4. I only receive a Niagara University Scholarship/Grant.  Do I need to complete a FAFSA?
No.  If you only want to renew the Niagara University scholarship/grant for the following year and do not intend to apply for any federal or state aid, you need only complete the NU Application for Financial Aid.  The NU application is available to download at www.niagara.edu/financialaid  or call the Financial Aid Office for a paper form.
  5. When can I expect to hear about my financial aid package?
Returning students begin receiving notice of renewal financial aid packages in June.
  6. What if my family’s financial circumstances change drastically during a given year?
Anytime there is a change due to loss of employment, death of a parent, serious medical condition, etc., we encourage the student or parent to contact the Financial Aid Office.  The family may be asked to complete a “Special Circumstances” form.  If warranted, the student will be sent a revised financial aid award letter.
