Each year, Niagara University’s Alpha Alpha Zeta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society, invites eligible students to become members and to participate in the many social, educational, and service activities the organization sponsors. Students must:

  • have at least a B average in English
  • have completed at least three English courses other than English 100
  • have completed at least three semesters of college work
  • be in the top thirty-five percent of their graduating class.

We will begin recruiting new members during the Spring 2008 semester. If you are interested in finding out more about Sigma Tau Delta or possibly becoming a member, please contact our co-presidents, Adam Lynch and Megan Schlichting, or visit our Facebook group for more information.

More Information About Sigma Tau Delta

Over the years, our members have hosted poetry readings featuring prominent authors such as Robert Creely and have sponsored open mic nights for students to share their work.  Brunches at faculty members’ homes, excursions to theatre performances in Buffalo and Toronto, and dinner and theatre nights held on campus offer Sigma Tau Delta members opportunities to share their love of literature and to get to know their professors and their fellow English majors better outside the classroom. In addition, Sigma Tau Delta members actively contribute to the campus and local communities. They raise funds to purchase books for local school children, they donate their time to read to nursing home residents and to youngsters in after-school latchkey programs; they volunteer to tutor, and they organize book donation drives, to offer just a few examples.
