Department of Teacher Education

Program Portfolios

The Department of Teacher Education has a program portfolio requirement for all initial certification teacher candidates. This program portfolio challenges you as a teacher candidate to be aware of ten nationally recognized core competencies expected of beginning teacher professionals, and to provide evidence that you are competent in each of these areas. Because our courses were designed to address these ten competencies, you should be able to provide appropriate evidence from among the course activities you have already completed, or are completing this semester. In this sense, the portfolio does not require the creation of new content so much as organization of what you have already completed, along with a reflection piece to demonstrate your awareness of how you have met each competency. The accompanying Portfolio for Initial Programs document is designed to serve as an authoritative reference in this effort.

If you have questions that are not answered by the attached Portfolio for Initial Programs document, please ask your Education course instructor, your Education advisor, or Dr. Chandra Foote, Department Chair.
