Niagara University Education Majors have the benefit of gaining experience right from the first semester of their freshman year. These pre-service hours are arranged through Barbara Gallucci, Tutor/Mentor Coordinator for Learn and Serve Niagara.
A 20-hour per semester requirement allows our students to complete 100 hours of field service before beginning their Teaching Assistantship, which is arranged through the Office of Teacher Education. Placements are made based upon the student's area of certification and will provide them with a variety of assignments during the first five semesters of their education. Students may be placed as classroom assistants or as tutors working with individuals or small groups. With ties to nearly all the schools in the Niagara region, Learn and Serve prides itself on providing a diversity of rich experiences for our education students.
Information on field placements/certification, as required by New York State Department of Education & Niagara University, is available in the Learn & Serve Office and also in the tutor placement packets.
