Areas of research center on learning and affective concerns. Specifically, I am interested in the following issues: a) learning challenges and coping strategies; b) constructivism; c) factors that affect learning outcomes; and d) reliability, validity, and fairness issues. Dr, Cowden's responsibilities have afforded him numerous opportunities to develop leadership and expertise in the field of Special Education. Peter has received recognition and numerous awards for his many contributions to education, including "International Citizen of the Year" from the Civitan Organization, Who's Who 2009 and "Special Educator of the Year for Canada and the U.S.A." from Niagara University. His work gives him a unique perspective on issues and challenges facing children with special needs as well as those who support them. Peter Cowden is an accomplished speaker and published author. He is recognized for his innovative approach to problem solving, his integrity and his ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization.
Dr. Cowden holds a PhD from the State University of New York; a MSc.inEd, from Niagara University; an Ed.Exs (Exceptional Children) from York University; a Specialist in Special Education From York University; Qualifications to teach the Visually Impaired from Western University; Principal qualifications from Brock and York Universities; a Bachelor of Education from the Ontario Education College at McMaster University; and a Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University.
