The Community Outreach Partnership Centers (COPC) program is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and its Office of University Partnerships (OUP).  Since 1994, OUP’s Community Outreach Partnership Centers (COPC) program has awarded grants to help colleges and universities establish and operate COPCs to carry out outreach and applied research activities that will address problems of urban areas. The program also seeks to encourage structural changes, both within an institution and in the way the institution relates to its neighborhood.

 

In November, 2005, Niagara University received a three-year grant through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of University Partnerships (OUP). With this funding in July 2006, NU established ReNU Niagara a Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) located at 1901 Main Street in Niagara Falls. In June of 2007, ReNU Niagara COPC relocated to a larger space across the street at 1816 Main Street.

 

The mission of ReNU Niagara is to improve the quality of life for Niagara Falls residents by initiating and supporting asset based, targeted activities in partnership with community leadership. ReNU Niagara addresses the urgent multidirectional urban problems of:

Over the next 36 months, University and community partners will work towards achieving the following end results:

  • Neighborhood residents and organizations will have increased access to each other and more positive results from their engagement;
  • Research will produce data to aid in the development of fact- driven future strategies; and
  • Quality of life and livability of the neighborhoods will be visibly improved.

ReNU Niagara COPC outreach efforts and applied research activities are concentrated in the City of Niagara Falls Renewal Community in Niagara Falls, New York.
