Dr. Jim Kling has been at NU’s College of Business since 1990.  He was born in Rochester NY and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Maryland--College Park in 1989.  His primary academic field is Supply Chain Management (Transportation, Logistics, Inventory, Warehousing, and Purchasing).  He is also one of the lead instructors in the freshman BUS 120 introductory course.

In September 2006, Dr. Kling returned to the classroom after a full year sabbatical working with local businesses, primarily on projects designed to improve transportation and inventory management practices.   In advocating student-professional interaction, he established the Center for Supply Chain Excellence in 2000, and also teaches professional development courses through the Center.  He is on the board of directors for the Western New York chapter of CSCMP (Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals).

Jim Kling is a strong advocate of the Vincentian Mission at Niagara University, serving as the Director of University Mission in 2002-2004, and he recently led sixteen NU students on a week-long service trip to the Germantown area of Philadelphia.  He also serves on the University Chapel Community’s leadership council.  In April of 2006, he was co-author on a research paper, "Faculty Ethics from the Perspective of College of Business Administrators" presented at the Allied Academies Conference in New Orleans. The paper won a "distinguished research award" and will be published in an upcoming issue of the Academy of Educational Leadership Journal.
