- How do I find out how to register on-line?
- Go to myNU log in and follow the instructions.
- When is registration for me?
- Registration schedule
Seniors get to register first, then Juniors, Sophomores, etc. by credit hours completed. See the first page of the course schedule handout for the days you can register. You can always register after your days; up until the first day of the semester.
- Who is my advisor, I thought my advisor was Myriam Witkowski, Assistant Dean?
- Every student has a faculty member as an advisor. Myriam Witkowski handles senior checks and special situations. In almost all circumstances, you should make an appointment with your faculty advisor. To find out who your advisor is go to myNU on the website and see your profile section. Otherwise, contact the office coordinator, Melissa Heidt at mah@niagara.edu; 286-8160.
- I want to register online but I need to be “unlocked.” How do I get unlocked?
- You must schedule a meeting with your faculty advisor to go over your remaining course requirements (program sheet) and to assist you in choosing appropriate courses. This should be done in the two-week window before your registration date. Commerce faculty members should have appointment times listed on their doors. At the conclusion of your appointment, the faculty member will unlock you in the system.
- What if I have made a good faith effort to make an appointment with my advisor but I haven’t been able to meet with him/her, and now I need to be unlocked!
- If you are a Commerce student, please see the Chair of the Department. Explain your situation and he will be able to advise you and unlock you during Open Advisement times posted on his door. Be sure you are ready for the appointment—have your completed program sheet and planned courses.
- How can I find out which classes are closed?
- The number of remaining seats in a course can be found online in the Records Dept.
- If a course is closed, is there any way I can get into that class section?
- Maybe. If you are a graduating senior, we will find a way to accommodate you. Most courses close at or near the PHYSICAL MAXIMUM NUMBER OF SEATS in a room, so don’t take it personally if you don’t get into a closed course. If you want to go through the “force enter” process, you can get a form from the Records Office and then you will need the signature of the Instructor and the Chair.
- Where can I get information on an internship?
- The Career Development office located in Seton Hall - Lower Level can assist you with this process. You can check out their website regarding internships.
- What are the requirements to complete three credits of a business 495/496 co-op:
- n order to get a “satisfactory,” at the end of the semester, you must: a) complete 150 hours of co-op experience/employment, b) complete a feedback paper assignment and submit it to your faculty advisor by the FIRST day of final exams, and c) receive an overall rating of average or better from your work supervisor and your faculty advisor must have the form in hand at the end of the semester.
- What do I need to do to complete the Feedback Paper Assignment
- Unless you are a given a different specific assignment from your faculty advisor, you should follow this general Business/Management format. You may use the first-person form but use proper English grammar and check for errors.
During the first half of your co-op work experience, write a two-page paper that describes your job/co-op. What do you do? Who do you report to? How does your job fit into the company’s business, etc. Be sure to describe any management responsibilities such as supervision, planning, paperwork processes, computer input, etc. Also relate any early impressions you have about the value of this experience. Email this paper to your faculty advisor as Co-op paper #1 from.
At the completion of the job assignment or the semester end, write a second two-page paper that is more reflective. What did you learn about management/your area of study from this co-op? Was it similar/different than what you expected--how? How did your coursework prepare you for this experience? Did you see connections between what you studied and what you experienced? Are there things you wish you had studied prior to the experience--areas that you might suggest we include in future curriculum? Answer these questions for the broad area of business courses and experiences, but in particular your area of concentration. Conclude with an overall evaluation of this experience and any other learning experiences that you think will be of interest to your faculty advisor. Email this paper to your faculty advisor as Co-op paper #2 from. Both papers must be received by the FIRST day of final exams for your faculty advisor to give you a satisfactory grade.
You are being evaluated by your workplace supervisor. Remember that you represent not only yourself but also Niagara University and the College of Business. Many co-op experiences can lead to full-time jobs or serve as valuable references. As to the evaluation form itself, as a student you do not have any responsibilities. Your work supervisor will fill out this one page form and either mail or fax it directly to the cooperative education coordinator at NU. If it is done in a timely manner it should be available for your faculty advisor to review for your final grade. The areas you will be rated on are:
- Ability to learn on the job
- Initiative and self-reliance on the job
- Enthusiasm demonstrated for the job
- Problem solving ability
- Consistent quality of work
- Leadership and team skills
- Oral and written communication
- Computer skills
- Effectiveness in multicultural settings
- Integrity
- Personal appearance
- Punctuality and attendance.
