  • Academic Exploration (AEP) is a program for undecided first year students.  They have many resources for major exploration on their links page.
  • General Studies can be used similarly to AEP for students exploring major options.  This is generally a better route for late sophomores or juniors.

• John P. Sauter, Jr. is Assistant to the Dean for Academic Affairs and the advisor for the General Studies program.  He can be contacted at (716) 286-8060 for an appointment or jps@niagara.edu with a question.
• Your Advisor or a Faculty Member in the department you are interested in exploring.

How Can I Change My Major?

• Remember that it is OK to switch majors, especially if you are struggling. 

If you are usure of or struggling in your major, selecting a different major which matches your interests or academic strengths can help. Remaining in a major in which you are struggling can further harm your GPA or lead to dismissal. 

• If you are concerned about where your credits might fall on the new curriculum, make an appointment in the Dean’s Office to review how the credit is placed.
• Forms Required to Switch Your Major:
  • Major Change Form – Switch between majors within the same college
  • Transfer Within Form – Switch to a major in another college

  (Note that switching to Education Requires a 2.5 overall GPA)

  • Minor in your prior major if you have enough credits.

Major Options

Double Majoring:  One degree with two major concentrations

Double Degree:  Two Degrees with separate major concentrations which require:

• Two separate degrees (BA, BS, BFA, BBA…)
• Two different colleges (A&S, Business, Hospitality, Education)
• At least 10 extra courses

Minoring:  Add some flexibility to your major by adding a minor.
