Guide to Double Majoring
- How do the majors fit together?
- Double majors must fulfill the entire curriculum card for your primary major, and the major requirements for the second major.
- Primary Major
- You must complete all the courses on the curriculum card
- Secondary Major
- You must complete the required courses for the secondary major including:
- Major Courses with the exception of the advised electives
- Analytical Skills that are specified (MAT102, CIS 233, SPK 101).
- Any other general education courses that are specified (e.g. BIO 101 for Social work, and PHY 121 for Chemistry majors)
- Steps to take in arranging your double major
- Look for any cross-listed courses in the catalog
- Review the designations for each of your second major courses
- If one matches any of your remaining general education requirements you can slot that course into your primary curriculum card.
- Review the analytical skills for each major as stated above
- Check with your advisors to see whether any similar courses might be able to be substituted
- Advisement for Double Majors
- Since you will have two advisors, you will need to work out a system with them regarding registration and advisement. Keeping in touch with both of them will:
- Ensure that you get important major information
- Help you to stay on track with your courses
- Pay close attention to the scheduling of your courses and when they might be offered
- If you wish to double check your progress you may schedule an appointment with the Assistant to the Dean to review your curriculum to date.
- Examples of Double Majors

- International Studies & Spanish
- Mathematics & Chemistry
- Theatre & English
