DEPARTMENTAL MISSION:
Medical schools throughout North America are seeking students with a diversity of interests in their undergraduate career. Thus, there is no fixed premedical curriculum. However, certain courses are strongly recommended by medical schools. Although not universal, many applicants into the medical profession have a biochemistry and chemistry degree. This degree provides students with the chemistry and biology background that medical schools feel will benefit the applicants. Traditionally, students with a physical science degree have one of the highest success rate as applicants into medical schools. Niagara University chemistry students boast a perfect applicant to acceptance record. Admission requirements are published annually by the Association of American Medical Colleges and this is an excellent source for all types of pertinent information. The trends for medical school also are true for dentistry, optometry, podiatry, and veterinary medicine. Regardless of the health profession that a student wishes to pursue, it is imperative that he/she meet all the particular requirements of the professional school that he/she is interested in attending. Below are links to public health schools throughout North America and it is encouraged that any student wishing to pursue a career in the health service industry familiarize themselves in all the requirements. By the end of the freshman year, students should talk to their faculty advisor in regards to the most applicable courses to take in their future years.
