Career Notes

Here are a few hints that helped me find employment when I graduated from Niagara... these tips do not guarantee a job but they definitely help!

1. Resume` - needs to have more than Taco Bell or Summer Camp on it.  - see #2 - the resume link takes you to the Get Hired Book - put together by Niagara's Career Development Staff - I like Page 15

2. Internships and Co-Op's - Anything paid, volunteer or for credit; that is in your field of interest.

3. Resume's, Internships and Co-Op's - have one thing in common - they show experience.  You can be the Straight A, good in lab, and have a pretty good idea of what is going on student - but if you do not have experience - the person with experience will get the job over you any day.

4. Business Cards - Vista Print is a great source for your first Business Card.  You meet someone that may be a great contact - a napkin will not cut it - Here is my card ... put your Major, contact info and Internship Title.  Now that person has some idea what you do.  Plus you might get their contact info too.

5. Contacts - I like making contacts, you never know who you will meet.  Best places to make contacts are networking functions.  A great place to start networking - NUACS - Niagara's American Chemical Society is a link to a Nationally know Organization with member all over the US in many different positions.

these are just a few pointer and I have a few more coming soon...
