Electronic Health Record Management Program: Workforce Investment Approved

This 95 hour Electronic Health Record Management program focuses on providing the skills necessary to not only input medical information into an electronic system but also the knowledge required to follow the legislation set by the Office of National Coordination for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT) and Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
During this program, you will receive hands-on experience in a computer lab learning to work with the electronic medical software Medcin, creating patient records, including lab reports, nurse’s notes and physician’s progress reports, code set applications and the printing of reports. You will learn the importance of ensuring that all the information is correct, complete, and legal.
You will also gain important knowledge in the critical role of protecting the privacy of the patient’s personal health information (PHI) and the legislation governing the electronic transmission of PHI.
This 95 hour Electronic Health Record Management Program prepares students to navigate the complexities of an electronic health record software system that includes code set methodologies as they relate to inpatient and outpatient services as well as the legal and ethical components of the Electronic Health Record (EH R). After the successful completion of this program, students will be prepared to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS) exam.
