Quilling — Easter Bunnies The Art of Paper Filigree
Whirl and twirl yourself into this art that dates back to the 16th century when French and Italian nuns created ornate borders to embellish religious articles. During the 18th century it was encouraged as a fashionable pastime for ladies. Quilling has recently proved popular with rubber stamp and scrapbook enthusiasts. In this beginner class you will create cute bunnies suitable for cards, scrapbooks, gift tags, and framed photos. The only limit is your imagination! Adult Ceramics Class
Over the period of eight weeks, you will explore a variety of techniques for the production of clay vessels and kiln firing. In addition to hand-building, you will be introduced to the wheel and have the opportunity to explore its possibilities. Form, function and personal aesthetic will be a focus of the course as you partake in the physical process of making pottery. As clay work is completed, we will explore ways of firing it. Firing techniques include low-fire electric with functional and nonfunctional glazes and underglazes, pit-fire, and Raku. Instructor: Casey Thomas.

Here’s a totally unique opportunity — a daylong cruise aboard the tallship Empire Sandy to explore some of the locks, bridges, and history of the St. Lawrence Seaway’s Welland Canal. Introduction to Coin and Relic Hunting (with field trip)
This course will explain and acquaint you to the finer points of coin and relic hunting with the use of metal detectors. The intrinsic benefits of exercise, both mental and physical, coupled with the excitement and satisfaction of a successful outing, will deepen the desire to delve into the research of, and history associated with, both the targeted area and the coins and relics of the past. This course will cover a basic understanding of how a metal detector works as well as the history of its development. It will also explain the laws and protocols governing the pursuit and retrieval of coins and relics. How and where to research prime locations is discussed, as are tips on how to spot undocumented roadside sites. Suggestions are offered on the basic necessities one should consider before a foray, as well as on the peripheral electronics and equipment that would enhance a neophyte’s developing interests. Last but not least, we’ll discuss the plants and insects that can make for an uncomfortable, if not health-threatening, experience. If you are searching for an activity that is fun, healthy, and occasionally profitable, this course may be for you.

One Stroke Painting

Curling for Beginners
Curling is a unique winter sport that provides adults with physical activity in a social setting. Colonial Hearth Cooking at NU and Old Fort Niagara

Niagara University offers defensive driving courses in association with the New York Safety Program. Completing the course entitles you to a 10 percent discount on your automobile insurance premiums in the state of New York each year for three consecutive years.
