Niagara University’s MBA Professional Development Program is the perfect educational tool for professionals to gain a comprehensive understanding of powerful business practices.In today’s rapid and continuously changing environment, emerging business managers need to understand the best practices that will elevate the company’s bottom line and allow them to advance professionally. Many times, these skills can be gained by short-term professional training and development, such as the MBA Classic Professional Development Program.

The program will offer an overview of the key concepts, tools, and management skills that are required to succeed in today’s challenging business environment. Case studies, economics, law, and strategic planning will be the focus. By the end of the program, all participants will have an understanding of how organizations can support corporate strategy and the different ways that businesses can adapt to constant change.

Turn your MBA Classic into an MBA degree

Individuals who have earned the MBA Classic certificate andapply for admission to Niagara University’s MBA program willhave satisfied the requirements for one prerequisite course(MGT 570 – Principles of Management) providing they meet therequirements for admission to Niagara’s MBA program.


Program Content

Principles of Management - Sept. 16, 2008

Become a more effective manager, and learn about the critical roles managers must play in order to add value to their organizations. You will examine the managerial functions of planning, organizing, leading and controlling in a rapid and changing environment. Understand how managers drive organizational performance through effective use of leadership, communication, motivation, organizational design, and strategic and operational planning in order to accomplish effective use of all corporate resources, including human capital.

Financial Accounting - Sept. 23, 2008

In this introductory module, the bottom line is your focus with a great overview of how numbers can be your friend. View accounting as a source of information and a tool for effective decision making. You will gain a basic understanding of the concepts of financial accounting including analysis and interpretation of financial reports with emphasis on their use by external parties such as stockholders, suppliers and creditors.

Business Law and Ethics - Sept. 20, 2008

Learn how general legal principles, methods, and objectives, with particular emphasis on the rules that govern commercial dealings, will help you in the long run. Explore the fundamental aspects of law, torts, contracts, sales, and property. The scope of coverage takes into account the needs of your business.

Macroeconomics - Oct. 7, 2008

A solid economic IQ is necessary in today’s rapidly moving economy. Understanding national income, interest rates, investment, global trade, and the actions of the Federal Reserve are critical to successful business practices, and can be demystified with this module.

Marketing - Oct. 14, 2008

Marketing is the primary function of business that generates revenue for the firm and value for the customer. Is your firm prepared for the sea change that is rushing upon us? Learn the latest marketing strategies and tactics that are driving unprecedented profits and market share. Using both local and global case studies, experience real-world examples of how the newest marketing techniques are paying off.

Managerial Accounting - Oct. 21, 2008

Are we really making money? Now that you know the bottom line, learn how to use this valuable information as a tool for effective decision making within your organization. A basic understanding of the procedures of management accounting as a means of identifying management problems and evaluating potential solutions will help your business win. Topics include cost-volume-profit analysis, product costing, budgeting, and performance evaluation to put your company ahead of others.

Corporate Finance - Oct. 28, 2008

Do you understand how to read and analyze financial statements in order to make a profitable decision and point your company or department in the right direction? Go in depth into ethical business decisions and learn how corporate finance will profit from your analysis. Building upon the financial accounting and macroeconomics modules, this session will further develop your skills and allow you to get a better understanding of the bottom line.

Management Information Systems - Nov. 4, 2008

Using Blackberries, cell phones, and the computer is the only way to do business today. But what is going to be the next tool that we need to use? You should have a clear vision of how to effectively use IT within your organization to achieve maximum results. We will also look at the challenges of incorporating technologies and discuss practical guidelines for managing and using IT securely so that you can integrate technology more efficiently and be more productive.

Supply Chain Management - Nov. 11, 2008

What is supply chain management and why is it important to you and your company? We’ll review SCM elements including purchasing, transportation, inventory management, and international logistics. Getting a complete understanding of this topic will allow you to analyze your company and department in order to make it more productive.

Strategic Management/Capstone - Nov. 28, 2008

Ever wonder why some firms in the same industry succeed while others fail? This crucial question will be explored in this capstone strategy module, which is designed to help you build a strategic-thinking capability. We will cover the strategy process from analysis of the firm and its environment to the generic strategies available to firms. We’ll also look at implementation - organization, measurement, control, and corporate governance. In this module we pull it all together: finance, accounting, marketing, operations, human resources, and supply chain management. We will use an actual case to explain key concepts and special attention will be given to innovation and the creative processes firms employ to build competitive advantage.
