The ONLY endorsed AP Summer Institute with a Jet Boat ride up the mighty Niagara River!
Niagara University is delighted to offer their annual College Board endorsed Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) for teachers who would like to prepare themselves for AP teaching or advance their skills in AP courses.
The Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) will offer intensive courses that will provide in-depth preparation for teaching AP subject matter. It will also serve as a forum for exchanging ideas and information about the course and examination. Participants will have the opportunity to design or modify a course outline and curriculum that is organized around selected topics, concepts and themes.
Each teacher must check with their school district in regards registering these hours for their professional development service.
Institute Objectives
To improve teacher techniques and detailed understanding of AP courses
-
To familiarize teachers with syllabi, curriculum materials, and effective strategies
-
To provide opportunities for the exchange of ideas and professional development networking.
-
To familiarize teachers with the AP examination and reading process
-
To educate new AP teachers
-
To review new techniques and share best practices for experienced AP teachers
Who should attend?
Both new and experienced AP teachers should attend an AP institute. If you have never attended a week long AP summer institute, but have found yourself teaching AP for years, now’s your chance. If you are new to AP, then you can learn all the new techniques and trick that will make you successful.
This program will be geared toward new or relatively new teachers of AP, though it is also open to experienced teachers in their subjects. Emphasis will be placed on preparing, setting-up, running and evaluating the required curriculum and as needed, any laboratory experiences. An analysis of past AP exams will be included, as well as a discussion of the scoring rubrics and the grading of the free response section of the exam. Review and learn new techniques and strategies for teaching the course, as well as “best practices.”
