Information for Parents & Family

Dear Parents & Family,

The staff of the Office of Career Development would like to welcome you to our website.  Our hope is that as a result of visiting this website, we will have answered some of your questions regarding the career development process and the career services that are available to our students at Niagara University.

The mission of the Office of Career Development is to provide individualized services to assist students and alumni in developing and fulfilling their career objectives, with the goal of obtaining lifelong career satisfaction.  The Office of Career Development is here to assist your student with the transition from school to work or graduate school and to understand the importance of a life-work balance.  Our primary services include: career counseling, career exploration, resume/cover letter critiques, practice interviews, on-campus recruitment, internships and co-ops, monthly newsletters, and on-campus events. It is important to note that we do not place students in jobs, however, we do provide students with the necessary skills to get hired.

We understand the apprehension that some students' parents and families feel when sending them off to college, which may be a result of many students' ambivalence in choosing a major and making career choices.  However, parents and other family members can play an important role in the career development process.  You may be wondering how you might be able to help your student journey through the career development process.  The answer:  ENCOURAGEMENT.  Encourage your student to visit the Office of Career Development today.  Emphasize to your student the importance of obtaining an internship or co-op to gain the hands-on experience that employers desire as well as to attend on-campus events.  Take a look at the Career Development Timetable to better understand the steps your student should be taking now to prepare for a future career.

We wish you the best of luck in encouraging your student to become an active participant in the career development process. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or suggestions that you may have.

Sincerely,

The Office of Career Development Staff
