Dear Niagara Student,

On behalf of our entire staff, I wish to cordially welcome you to the Niagara University Office of Career Development.  We take pride in the many services we provide to assist you in reaching that career goal that you have worked so diligently to attain.  You chose to matriculate at Niagara University for many reasons: its high quality of education; the warmth and congeniality that is unique to our campus community; our many cultural, athletic and social events; and the friendships that you will make and cherish throughout your entire life.  You also selected to attend Niagara to acquire the skills, abilities, and knowledge that will enable you to successfully transition into your desired career field.

To land the right job, you must properly develop those skills that will enable you to stand out in the highly competitive job market that you are about to enter.  Picture yourself as a sales representative who is marketing a highly valuable commodity – YOU.  Also keep this in mind; you are competing with many other applicants for the same position.  This is precisely why you must endeavor to acquire those job search skills that will place you in the forefront of your competition; those skills that will sell you.  To accomplish this, you will need to learn, and effectively utilize, those tools that produce positive results.

Professional and personalized assessment, resumes that project your potential value to an employer, resume cover letters to specific employers, interviewing techniques that communicate your attributes, and proper follow-up including timely, well written thank you letters are essential to your success.  The application of proper grammar, networking, and professional attire are but a few of the fundamentals that will help launch you on the road to success.  We at the Office of Career Development are truly committed to helping you master these essential job search skills to achieve your desired goal.
