ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY
The
St. Vincent de Paul Society is an international organization
founded in 1833 by Blessed Frederic Ozanam. Placed under
the patronage of St. Vincent de Paul, the society derives its
inspiration and purpose from his thinking and work. it
seek, in a spirit of justice and charity and by person to person
involvement of members, to help those who are suffering in any
way.
This
society is open to all NU students who acknowledge the need for
improvement in society and wish to positively contribute
thereto. We offer many service opportunities on a voluntary
basis.
Meetings
take place very other Sunday. We also participate in many
on-campus activities including Hunger Awareness Week, in which
meals are given up and money is donated to Oxfam America.
An occasional fast also occurs to heighten awareness of those who
suffer from hunger. During the Alternative Christmas
Boutique, beautifully crafted products made by poor artisans are
sold. SVDP strongly supports these workers and wishes to
make NU students conscious of the exploitative conditions in
sweatshops around the world. Our efforts support
poverty-stricken families.
