Canvas Information for Faculty

Beginning in Summer 2016, Niagara University switched our learning management platform from Blackboard to Canvas. All courses going forward will be on Canvas. We welcome you to explore the resources here to prepare you for offering your course on Canvas!

Need content moved over from a previously used Blackboard course? No problem!

We have all of the courses previously used on Blackboard ready to be brought into Canvas for you as needed. All you have to do is fill out this simple form, and a ticket will be created for you. All migrations are done in the order they are received.

Need some Canvas training or need a quick question answered? 

The Office of Instructional Support provides Canvas training in multiple ways. Take a look at the upcoming training events on their page and sign up, or, contact Sierra Adare-Tasiwoopa ápi by email or by phone at 716.286.8120.

Quick Overview of the Canvas Process

  • All courses are automatically created in Canvas, with all instructors and students assigned to them. All courses are unpublished by default, so until the instructor publishes them, students will not see them. There is no need to request that your course be created.
  • If material needs to come over from Blackboard, please request migration by filling out this simple form.
  • As students drop courses, they will be AUTOMATICALLY dropped from Canvas courses. No action is needed on your part as an instructor. Please note that there is a 48 hour windows in this process to allow for the correction of any mistaken drops.
  • Course sections can be combined into one section for convenience.
