Graffiti Movement

Although the two artists most associated with this movement—Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat—stopped spray-painting on urban walls and in subway stations very early in their careers, the sense of hip-hop zeitgeist associated with “real” graffiti is present in the work of both artists. There are many different styles associated with graffiti, but its connection with street culture and a hidden language of signs and symbols remain constants.
