The fall 2006 season at the Castellani Art Museum has to be one of the most vigorous in the history of our museum, with the opening of our new interpretive center, “Freedom Crossing: The Underground Railroad in Greater Niagara;” a highlights show from the recently acquired Charles Rand Penney collection of historic Niagara Falls prints (765 in all!); a display celebrating the 150th anniversary of Niagara University with an adjacent show of major pieces acquired during the museum’s own history; a folk arts exhibition of the astoundingly beautiful work of Niagara’s own “G’ma Moses,” Mary Kobler; and, last but not least, a show of the drawings of the internationally- known contemporary artist Lesley Dill. Joseph Miller opens our next TopSpin exhibition on October 6, the first First Friday of the season, and TopSpin artist Lillian Mendez’s “Funky Parade” travels to our satellite gallery in mid-September. Speaking of travel, the Wichita Falls Museum and Art Center has asked for our Wolf Kahn exhibition, “About the Falls,” in January through April of 2007. With so many activities going on at the Castellani with the word “Niagara” in the title, we decided to “Fall for Niagara” at our next annual gala. PLEASE join us on September 30 for another evening of great food, auctions, and art! Laurene Buckley, Ph.D.
