April 2008
Each Saturday in April, ART EXPRESS will explore the various ways that artists approach the same subject. We’ll look at a number of artworks in the permanent collection that show a variety of styles, expressions, and materials.
April 5: Mixed Media Still Life
We’ll set up an actual still life in the classroom and talk about shape, line, color, composition, and the various media available to the artist.
April 12: Drawing Portraits
Drawing the human face can be challenging and fun! We’ll learn about the proportion of facial features as we explore the underlying shapes of the human head.
April 19: Expressive Landscapes
Let’s hope for sunshine as we head outside to paint the landscape. If it rains, no problem! We’ll work from landscape paintings in the museum’s collection by such notable artists as Marsden Hartley and Wayne Thiebaud.
April 26: Animals
We’ll begin by examining the various ways artists depict animals in their artworks, from super-realistic horses to plastic cows! Using basic geometric shapes as building blocks, we’ll explore the anatomy of these wonderful animals as we create our own exciting artworks.
Call 716-286-8200 to reserve your space. Cost: $3 per participant; $2 for members. Adult supervision required.
