Beginning in 1895 a new steel arch bridge was built around the old Upper Suspension Bridge. This bridge was completed in 1898, the year this print commemorating it was issued. This bridge was the longest steel bridge built in the nineteenth century. The print shows the trolley line along the base of the gorge on the American side.
