Bradley Barie, McGowan Scholar

June 29, 2009

Bradley J. Barie, a student in Niagara University's College of Business Administration, has been awarded the William G. McGowan Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year.

A native of Olean, Barie is scheduled to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance in May 2010. A dean's list student, he is an assistant in the college's Financial Services Lab and a member of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs club. Barie also works in commercial transactions services operations accounting at Citicorp Services Inc. in Amherst.

The McGowan Charitable Fund established the McGowan Scholars program to provide selected colleges and universities with scholarships to help students who wish to pursue a business education. The program is based on the experience of MCI founder William G. McGowan during his college days. Though admitted to Harvard Business School to study for an MBA degree, he did not have sufficient funds to complete his studies. However, he won Harvard's Baker Scholars Award, which provided the funds necessary for him to earn his degree and launch a successful business career.
