Dr. Gallo joined the faculty in 1995. He teaches BIO212, Microbiology; BIO 315, Pharmacology; and BIO316, Immunology/Virology. His research involves the isolation and characterization of microorganisms producing novel metabolites, with particular interest in those producing antibiotics. His favorite organisms are the Actinomycetes. Dr. Gallo earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biochemistry at the University of Pittsburgh, and his Ph.D. in Microbiology at Cornell. He performed postdoctoral work at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, where he characterized a number of genes necessary for the production of daunorubicin in Streptomyces peucetius.
