Paper Submission & Evaluation
Papers must be received by Dr. Michael A. Kotarski by 5:00 PM eastern time on Wednesday March 5, 2008. There can be
no exceptions to this deadline. Email them to mmk@niagara.edu.
Students are encouraged to submit full-length papers for awards and are encouraged to have their research mentors help with the process. All full-length papers are to be sent independently of all other items for the conference.
Each manuscript submission should be a single document - all tables, figures, figure legends, etc., … should be part of this document. A single email with your name, title of the manuscript and your institution in the body of the email should be sent with the manuscript as a single email attachment. The authors name and paper title should be clearly stated in the body of the email. Dr. Kotarski will copy the document, remove the person's name and institution and send them for review.
ALL MATERIALS FOR A MANUSCRIPT MUST BE IN MICROSOFT WORD. IT SHOULD BE SENT AS MS WORD 2005 FOR WINDOWS OR MS WORD 2004 FOR MACINTOSH.
The evaluation of the judges will be final. Awards are presented only to excellent full-length papers at the awards ceremony at the banquet for ECSC and are presented only to a single student author. In the case of multiple authors, only the first author will be awarded.
The type of full-length papers that ECSC judges for awards is the result of a long-standing tradition. By using the phrase 'original research', we have followed the lead of journals in the sciences that publish papers that (1) present testable hypotheses, (2) design experiments to test these hypotheses and (3) then discuss the results of the experiments in the context of previous research. The format of the paper must follow the format below to be considered by the judges.
FORMAT of the manuscript:
Page 1 must contain only the 1) title, 2) author’s names, 3) author’s institutions (the authors name and institution should not appear on any pages except page 1).
Page 2 must contain the abstract.
Page 3 must start the introduction- the introduction should state the hypotheses if possible. The materials and methods section must include all materials so that the reader can understand how the
experiment was conducted. The results section must be written so that the reader can understand the results of the experiment. The discussion section must include the interpretation of your results in relation to past experimentation and must include the overall goal of the research. The reference section must include a complete and consistent set of references used in the paper. Tables and figures follow the reference section. Tables must be numbered in order in Arabic and cited in the manuscript text as Table 1, Table 2, etc., ….
Figure legends must be cited in the text as Figure 1, Figure 2, etc., …. Actual figures are included last- after the figure legends.
Good luck, good writing, and have a good experience.
