Bio
Dr. Bertland joined the NU philosophy department in 2006. He holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Emory University. His primary area of study is modern philosophy, specifically Giambattista Vico and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. He also has interests in business ethics, philosophy of art and continental philosophy. Dr. Bertland has published in New Vico Studies and Clio and teaches Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, Modern Philosophy, and Business Ethics.
Current Research
Dr. Bertland's focus is the 18th century Italian Philosopher Giambattista Vico. He is currently investigating the way in which Vico's study of philosophy informs his political philosophy. His encyclopedia entry on Vico has been posted in the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy. He is also working on issues in the philosophy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

Current Involvement
Dr. Bertland is a member of the American Philosophical Association and American Catholic Philosophical Association. He is also helping to organize the Vincentian Business Ethics conference series and is currently the adviser for Niagara University's chapter of Phi Sigma Tau, the Philosophy Honor Society.
