Robin Patterson

Bio
Robin graduated from Simon Fraser University, Canada and Ecole Jacques Lecoq, France. In 1977 she co-founded Theatre Beyond Words, an international touring theatre ensemble specializing in mask, clown, modern commedia dell'arte and visual theatre. The company has performed throughout Canada and USA, as well as in Europe, Asia and Australia. Presently Artistic Director/Manager of the company, Robin writes, directs and choreographs original works or adaptations. She also continues to perform in the company’s lecture demonstration Journey Behind the Mask. In 2007 Robin won the Woman of Distinction Award for Arts and Culture in the Niagara Region (Canada). She teaches theatrical clown for Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario and physical theatre for Niagara University. For NU, Robin directed Godspell (2006). With Terry Judd, she co-directed TBW's original mask, puppet and multi-media play Night Train to Foggy Bottom (2008), and The Boy Who Could Sing Pictures by John Lazarus (2011). Robin is currently writing an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s story, The Canterville Ghost for the Shaw Festival and directing TBW’s young company, Sprouts, in the graphic novel inspired show Tales from the Garden that will tour in the 2012/13 Season.
