Bio

Gary began his formal training in the music department of SUNY at Albany, then went on to study dance with Melissa Hayden, Elizabeth Carroll, Edward Vilella, Kay Mazzo and Peter Martins at Skidmore College. He also studied jazz with Rhett Dennis at the Luigi School in New York as well as modern with Ethel Winter of the Martha Graham School. Mr. Marino began performing with the Skidmore Dancers, Saratoga Ballet Company, Schenectady Civic Ballet, Buffalo Repertory Ballet Co. and Camelon Dancers. At Artpark, he choreographed and appeared in "La Traviata" and "Rigoletto" and numerous musicals. His choreographic experience also includes numerous ballets for the Buffalo Repertory Ballet Co. Previous teaching experience includes Skidmore College, Royal Academy of Ballet, Union College, Lockport City Ballet and SUNY at Albany and Buffalo, among others. Currently, Mr. Marino is also on faculty at the American Academy of Ballet, David DeMarie's Dance Studios and Dance Spectrum. In addition, he has judged in the U.S. and Canada for Dance Masters of America, Western New York Dance Championships. He is also involved in choreographing for and preparing young dancers to compete on local and national levels. Many students have gone on to join ballet companies and touring companies. In addition to teaching classical Vagonava technique in ballet, he has coached both figure skating for the Buffalo Skating Club and gymnastics at Gleasons Gymnastics. Summers have been spent guest teaching in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., at the Ballet Regent School and the New York State Summer School for the Arts. Other talents include composing and recording new music for ballet class. Last season, he co-choreographed Gigot for NU Theatre’s production of “Dance Theatre of Niagara.”
